The Direct Connection Between the Four Vedas and Ramayana by Pushpam Appalanaidu

Ram Navami falls on April 17th this year. Ayodhya, the place where Lord Rama was born, is bound to be filled with millions of devotees seeking blessings for Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana. His obedient yet mighty Hanuman will also be sought along with the thousand-odd temples that dot this ancient town that history says, is older than the Mahabharata which in turn is nearly 5000 years old.

What I am writing though is not about the temple, the palace or the history but, even much deeper for one needs to constantly keep their mind engaged with God.

A question that I ask is, what is the connection between Ramayana and the Vedas? There is a direct link that not many may know.

Let us first explore the four Vedas.

The Vedas are divided into four parts, viz., Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, and Atharvana Veda. The Vedas were obtained by the ancient rishis when they traversed the Milky Way perhaps hundreds of thousands of years ago. No one knows and no one will ever know how the Vedas came into our lives, but it is there for us to pursue and adapt.

The Ramayana in turn has four syllables. Ra Ma Ya Na. Each syllable stands for each Veda. Saints of eminence have also attributed each Veda to each of the brothers. For instance, Ra stands for Lord Rama and is the Rig Veda.

Lakshmana is the Yajur Veda, Bharata is Sama Veda and Satrughna is the Athar Veda. Each brother had a role to play in tune with the Vedas and what it stood for.
