Guru Purnima is devoted to paying respect and thanks to spiritual mentors, or gurus. The festival is observed on the full moon day, or Purnima, in the Hindu months of June and July. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Sage Vyasa, who is regarded as the compiler of the Vedas and the author of the Mahabharata. On Guru Purnima, we honour the gurus who teach us spiritual lessons and mentor us on our journey through life.

Guru Purnima, celebrated on the 21st of July, is celebrated by performing various rituals and ceremonies in ashrams and spiritual centers. Disciples offer flowers, fruits, and other gifts to their gurus as a token of gratitude. Many people also engage in prayers, meditation, and listening to discourses to absorb the teachings of their spiritual guides. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of humility and the continuous pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth.

Guru Purnima highlights the value of the guru-disciple bond. A guru is more than just a teacher on the spiritual path; they are a lighthouse that guides seekers towards enlightenment and drives out the darkness of ignorance. On this day, people who aspire to be spiritual might recommit to their practice and ask their gurus for blessings and guidance. It’s a time to reflect, express appreciation, and strengthen one’s spiritual ties.

I Pushpam Appalanaidu, by paying tribute to our gurus, show respect for their teachings and acknowledge their contribution to our spiritual development.
